Check out the new Bootleg Series!

Check out the new Bootleg Series by my friends at South Addison Picture Company. It begins with coverage of an event this past winter that packed the State Theatre in Portland, Maine featuring The Fogcutters 18 piece big band playing with various super talented local musicians. My friends Andy Batson, Jarrod Anderson and I shot the HD video and Andy edited it. It is now showing on The Entertainment Experience. All of the performers rocked and the place was jumpin’ for sure. Various styles from rap to funk to singer/songwriter were all made massive with the wall of sound that The Fogcutters are known for.

Andy shot down front footage with my Nikon D7000 and my Nikon 50mm 1.4. I got to shoot a Pro JVC HD cam on a massive tripod with handlebars for focus, zoom and panning. I was shooting from the center of the audience in the mixing booth. It was my first time on that rig and it was fun as hell. I had a blast. Enjoy the vids after the jump. Bookmark it as there are more videos coming week after week.

MōVi M10 by Freefly Systems

Behold the MōVi M10 by Freefly Systems. What an amazing piece of kit!!

Freefly Systems calls it “a stabilized gimbal born in the sky, reimagined for the ground.” I can’t wait to get my hands on one. It can be operated solely by the operator or in tandem with a camera operator via remote control for more fine-grained control. Think one guy running, the other doing the zoom/focus/framing with joysticks etc.

I can fathom that this will be somehow paired with touch screens via iOS/Android at some point in the near future. Whip out your iPhone, iPad, etc., pinch to zoom, swipe to pan/tilt, tap to focus while your cameraman is legging it over rough terrain and you get a fluid shot that you could never get with a behemoth of a Steadicam. This thing doesn’t have any massive weights on it!

Vincent Laforet, who has be testing it, has a great article announcing the release. The news even hit Gizmodo. Being released just prior to NAB 2013, it is bound to be one of the bells of the ball.

Here is the Freefly Vimeo vid showing it in action. It appears as though there will first be a Pro Model for RED cameras etc. for $15,000 with a $7,500 DSLR model coming soon. $2k for the pro and $750 or so for the DSLR model would be more my speed, but it IS all swanky with carbon it appears, so I can kind of understand the release price. I’m sure that in 9 years, I could afford one.

Check out some more of their products and videos. They are amazing.

Great news! CS3-CS4 upgrade pricing to CS6. Adobe relents!

Adobe finally listened to its customer base this time it would appear. They just announced that they “will offer special introductory upgrade pricing on Creative Suite 6 to customers who own CS3 or CS4.” It will be be available until Dec. 31, 2012 and the “ details on this offer, as well as any introductory offers for existing customers to move to Creative Cloud membership, will be announced when CS6 and Creative Cloud are released later this year.”

I hope that the offer is in line with past upgrade pricing. Only time will tell.

Scott Kelby’s Open Letter To Adobe Systems

wpid-scottkelby-2011-11-21-10-37.jpg vs. wpid-adobe-shantanu_narayen-2011-11-21-10-37.jpg

With Adobe’s recent announcement to price gouge their customer base with a lockout of CS6 upgrade pricing discounts to anyone not an owner of CS5 or CS5.5, it is wonderful to hear the Head of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), Scott Kelby speak out on this topic.

A sad day for Apple fans indeed. This just up on the AP website.

Best of luck Steve in your health and future. Keep fighting. I have faith that you have trained and inspired those at Apple to continue to make excellent products for many years to come. I believe that they can live up to your legacy.

SoPo Streetlight

Here is a shot of a streetlight in South Portland, Maine. It was a hot summer evening, and this light was peeking at me so I shot it.
